Episode 11: Peak Existential Dread

This week, Graycen and Alison talk about some science stories they read this week, including stories about corners, Fitbit data, and sperm. After the break, they interview CU Boulder chemist Jenny Berry about her work in Alaska studying ice.

Hoping to improve her ability to see around corners, Graycen read this piece by Natalie Wolchover for Quanta. Check out this room-sized camera obscura Graycen spent a day building in college! A long-exposure image of the projected image is unedited on the left, then flipped and enhanced on the right. No offense, but we’ve protected everyone’s face but Graycen’s from your potentially malevolent gaze.

Fitbit has learned a lot about your health by measuring your resting heart rate, and Alison learned a lot about them from David Pogue for Yahoo! Finance.

Katherine J. Wu wrote about sperm for Smithsonian Mag, and her story is chock full of delights.
